A Happy 4th

We had the best 4th of July! I was pretty bummed that Round Rock and our surrounding towns were under a fireworks ban this year. I love the 4th - going to the park, taking a picnic, watching fireworks, but we couldn't do that this year. So made plans to go to some friends for dinner and we took a quick day trip to Marble Falls for the day. We his the downtown shopping area first and found this sweet little turtle. Then, we went to the Blue Bonnet cafe for lunch. They are know for their pies. The line for a table was out the door.
Lane discovered a new favorite. Toast with Orange Marmalade and whatever else he had on his plate. This slice had a slice of tomato and several potato chips on it.

Lane was in hog heaven. While we all visited Lane snuck our straws out of our cups. After lunch we drove to the Exotic Resort Zoo. It was sooooo much fun! We started off in the petting zoo. We were amazed that deer came right up to us! I have been to lots of petting zoos, but nothing like this. Lane was hilarious, as usual.

I laughed forever after he asked me if the deer poop was beans. We eat a lot of black beans, but we may not be having them for a few weeks, or at least until I can get that mental image out of my head.Lane got pretty comfortable around the animals. He gave the sheep a big hug and loved the little white goat. As we were heading out I asked him what he thought we should name the goat. Can you guess the name he picked.... Poop, of course!Marlee got to see some deer up close from the safe side of the fence. She really liked them!I tried to get a picture of the kids with the Grandparents. I usually post the ones where at least one person is looking, but this one is a bit more realistic. When our tour was ready we got to load up in the open air bus. Marlee was very interested in the feed. And big brother's sun glasses. The animals all ran up to the bus as soon as they saw it coming. It was unreal to see so many animals so close! We loved the Lama's! They were so sweet.Lane even got into feeding the Lama's. He couldn't get enough!

Grammy and Marlee reached out to pet Zoe the Zebra.Zoe was a sweet girl, but a bit on the bossy side. She was really fun. Lane up on his perch ready to feed some more animals. Grampy, Clint, and Grammy fed the Scottish Highlander. His tongue was out of control. For a farm girl Grammy was pretty funny.

Clint and Snowman. I can't remember what he is, but he was beautiful. Lane and a little buddy. The bison was really cool too. He also had a crazy long tongue.

Lane didn't want to get too close to him. Best Buds.Grammy and her Girl. Marlee kept a pretty close eye on that feed bucket. When we got off the bus the first thing we all did was wash our hands. Lane loved the "sink". He loved it so much he snuck a few drinks out of it.The rest of us waited to get a bottle of water inside.I am so glad we went to the Exotic Resort Zoo. When we drove up I wasn't too sure about it, but it was amazing! Our fireworkless 4th turned out to be one of my favorite 4th's ever!
