Lane Mixin it Up

Last night I made the fam a Willis family treat. Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, and veggies. My Dad is the master of fried chicken and it is one of my goals in life to make it half as good as he does. Lane saw me get the mixer out to make the mashed potatoes and immediately went for a chair to push over to "help" me. He loves to help hold the mixer.

I let go to see how he would do and I fully expected to end up with potatoes all over my kitchen. Lane was able to hold onto the mixer and did a great job. I think next time I'll put him in charge of the potatoes and focus more on the chicken.

Reptile Show

This morning we took Lane up to the Reptile show at the ballpark. I have to say it was... interesting. As you can see by the look on Lane's face he felt the same way about it as I did. What a relief!

BB

Here's BB! This is a picture of her profile. Her face is looking to the right. She has her little eyes shut and to me it looks like her tongue is sticking out, the ultrasound tech said she's smiling so I guess were going with that. And, she has her right hand up by her face. To me it looks like her nose is HUGE! My Doctor said it's the reflection that makes it look big, let's just hope so. It also looks like she has chubby little cheeks just like her big brother!

Yesterday's ultrasound went great! BB is doing exactly what she is supposed to be doing. She is estimated to weigh about 5 lbs 3 ozs, so if I go the full 40 weeks before I have her she is supposed to be 8 lbs or so. She has already maneuvered herself head down, which explains the big round bump that always pushes out of the top of my tummy, her rump! Her little legs are wrapped way around on my right side. It's fun knowing what it is I'm feeling now when she kicks and moves her arms.

It's hard to believe she will be here so soon! We've just about got her nursery finished and I can't wait to post the pictures of it. Hopefully, soon. Now I've got to start washing all her little things, I haven't washed anything yet!

Dollar Hotdog Night

Lane had his first hotdog at the ball game tonight! I got him one a few weeks ago and he wouldn't touch it. Last week he took a couple bites of mine, so tonight I thought Lane just might eat his own hotdog. Sure enough, he ate the whole thing!

Sunday Nite

About 30 minutes before bedtime tonight I didn't think I had anything to post to begin the week. That was until I went out to water the front flowerbed with Lane while Clint made us all ice cream cones. Lane loves to "help" water and tonight was no exception. He started out holding the hose and then the next thing I knew he pulled the hose down to spray on his head. By the time Clint came out with our ice cream Lane was happily soaking wet! We turned off the water and Lane ate his ice cream cone. When it was time to go in, he was one sticky mess. We decided to hose him down before he went inside to get ready for bed.Lane loved having the water splashed on his tummy. And I loved that he wanted to hold my hand while Dad splashed him.
Tonight made me wonder what BB will be like. Will she like to splash and play in freezing cold hose water like her Brother and Dad or will she prefer a nice warm bath like her Mom? I can't wait to find out!

We have an ultrasound to check in on her Tuesday morning. I'm dying to see her and find out how's she's doing in her little home. I've been having braxton hicks contractions all the time now, Clint says that it's BB packing her things up to move out. I have to agree, she'll be here in the blink of an eye!

Helper Dude

Lane is a busy, busy, independent boy. He likes to do everything himself so holding hands when we go in and out of stores has always been a problem. To bribe him to hold hands I have found that if he gets to hold the grocery bags he'll do it. He used to put them over his shoulder, like Mom, and walk in. Then, the other night Dad went with us to the store and put the bags around Lane's neck. Now Lane thinks that's the ONLY way to carry a bag in.
Going into Walmart yesterday, playing it cute.
Getting ready to head out today.

Water Sprinkler Fun

Tonight while I painted a new glider for the baby's room Lane helped Dad plant a new Lantana bush I bought the other day. While they were watering the new bush Lane got a little carried away with the hose. Clint somehow got Lane to hold the hose over his head, he was soaking wet! Since Lane was already wet and having fun we got out the new sprinkler Grammy and Grampy got him. He wasn't too crazy about sprinklers last year, so I was excited to see that he loves his new one!
Clint went to move the sprinkler for Lane and in the process Lane moved it closer to Clint. It was fun to watch my boys play in the water together.
I think they have the exact same look on their faces. Clint's giving it to me and sweet Lane is giving it to his Dad. I sure love these guys!

a L-O-N-G walk

Last night Clint took us all for a little walk around Lake Pflugerville. He forgot to mention that the trail was 3 miles until we were on it. It was super windy last night so it made walking and even talking for that matter a little more difficult than usual, but aside from the wind we all had a great time.
Lane loves going for walks in his stroller. He would sit in it for hours as long as we keep walking. He helped hold Murphy's leash for part of the walk.

Lane got out of his stroller for the last little bit of the trail. He was soooo cute "running". I loved the way he pumped his little arms and shoulders. We couldn't get a good front shot of him running, but you get the idea from the video from the back.
Unfortunately, my 2 year old got his first skinned knee and leg last night. He fell and got a little upset, but I had no idea he was scrapped up until I was loading him into his car seat. He is one tough little dude.

2 Year Well Check

Lane had his 2 year well check today. I love those appointments because I get what I consider an official height and weight. Lane's not too crazy about the Doctor's office, but he's getting better. Today Dr. Chang let him "help" put the stethoscope on his chest, check out the light used to check his ears and throat, and Lane got to give Dr. Chang a high five between every check. Lane decided it wasn't too bad until he had to open wide.

Lane is 36.75 inches tall, the 95%.
Lane weighs 32.8 pounds, the 90-95%.
His head is 51.0 cm, the 99%. Makes sense, he needs a big head to go with his big body.

After we left the Doctor's office we ran some errands. While we were out, Lane held his first phone conversation with Grammy! He always loves to hold the phone and listen, smile, kiss the phone, anything but talk. Today he actually talked and responded to Grammy's questions with yes and no answers. I guess he figured since he's two now he needs to do more big boy things!

Happy Birthday Lane!

This is a huge post, because today was a HUGE day! My sweet Lane turned two and we had lots of celebrating to do!
This was the invitation to his party. We had his party at a nearby park that has a neat playground and an open air train that makes a several mile lap around the park.
Last year, I got a first birthday photo of Lane getting up on this birthday. I had to do the same again this year. I don't think he completely understands what a birthday is, but he sure did seem to understand that today is special! He never wakes up this excited.
Standing up and ready to start the day. Look at that happy face! He slept until a little after 10 am and we had to leave to get to the park by 10:30. He ate a quick breakfast with Grammy, Grampy, and Auntie and Uncle T before we took off.
I bought birthday balloons for Lane to have at the park. Grammy and Grampy went and got them inflated before we left and...they were off into the sky before we walked ten steps! Luckily Lane didn't mind, and in reality they probably would have been a mess. It was so windy yesterday that it was hard to keep anything in it's proper place. The kids got to play while all the adults visited and huddled to stay warm and block the wind. We all had lots of fun while Grampy and Uncle T grilled the burgers and hot dogs for lunch.
And then we played a bit more. Lane loved the slides. Every time he got to the bottom of a slide he would sign more and take off to go again.
Then, it was time for cake. We stuck with the train theme. Lane loved the candy on the train cars. Seriously, I think he almost went into a sugar coma the day Auntie and I made the cake he ate so much candy. Poor kid never gets candy so when he had the chance he ran with it! Lane loved hearing everyone sing Happy Birthday. Then, he sat and watched his sparkler until it was completely burnt out.
To wrap up the party we all went on the train ride around the park.
Lane and and a couple of his buddies with their train whistles after the train ride. I got Lane a conductors hat for the party and train ride and of course forgot it in the car, so we had to take pictures with it on before we left.
Before Clint had to go work to prep for the game tonight, the family all came back to our house to watch Lane open presents. He loved tearing the wrapping paper and wanted to stop and play with every single thing he opened.
His Great Grandma sent him a little old fashioned toy truck.
Grampy insisted that he needed a train set and Grammy went along with him. Grammy said "he's young for it now, and Grampy said "when he's 50 it will be an antique." Way to think ahead Grampy!
Lane got an electric drill that he thinks is the coolest thing ever. I think he played with it so much he ran the batteries down within the first 30 minutes.
He did a little "work" on all of his new toys.
Nina Ruth and PaPa Bob (or Popeye) as Lane calls him got him a cute little dump truck that talks and shakes. Lane did a little work on it.
And he worked on the new tricycle Grammy and Grampy got him.
And he played his new giant piano while he drank his milk. He likes to mulitask.
At the game I thought Lane deserved a very special Birthday treat. He got to have cotton candy for the first time and had so much fun eating it.
He even was generous enough to share a few bites with his Grandfathers. We had a great day and we are all so thankful for our precious Lane. I can't wait to see what this new year of being two will bring.

We've been busy with projects since Auntie got here on Sunday. We've painted a mural in the baby's room, run lots of errands, and are now in the process of making cakes for Lane's big Birthday this weekend.
Clint had a day game on Tuesday so we all got to go out for ice cream Tuesday night. Lane was happy with me on our side of the picnic table while I kept his little cup full of ice cream. But...
as soon as we finished my ice cream he left me for his T-T. She still had some of her cone left and he was not going to miss out.
What a smart guy!
